ABOUT THE ARTIST
As a Master Printmaker, designer, publisher, and artist, John Flinn (1918-1989)
touched many people’s lives through his images for half a century, establishing himself as an undeniably influential southwest artist of this century. A third generation Coloradan, John spent much of his life on the open prairie, recording its subtle changes throughout seasons and years.
A professional artist since the 1930’s, Flinn’s actual serigraph work didn’t begin until 1970, but increased steadily over the next two decades. Throughout that time he enjoyed widely attended exhibits and one man shows throughout the southwest, including Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, California, Kansas, and other states. Subsequently Flinn’s work is included in numbers private fine art collections throughout North America.
One of John’s first prints was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and today is kept in the museum’s permanent study collection.
Flinn’s work embodies peaceful, ideal images of America’s natural settings. Utilizing simple designs and bold colors, his artwork is vibrant and clear.
John’s Flinn’s former studio, screen print shop, and art gallery in Las Animas, Colorado, was until now one of the few places where his collection of prints and serigraphs could be purchased. Under his family’s direction, this new online gallery, which includes most of Flinn’s printwork, serves both as an extension of this love for natural beauty, and a way to let John Flinn’s fine art find its way into more lives.
